How this works

A bunch is two or more Muni vehicles on the same route, heading the same way, whose gap is shorter than the time above. Gap is the street distance between consecutive coaches, turned into minutes with their current speed (or about 12 mph if they’re sitting). Packs within a quarter mile of either end of the line are skipped — that’s usually a terminal, not bunching. Positions come from SFMTA’s live feed via the transit map API, about every 30 seconds.
